Hydroelectric Generation

The main objective of the hydroelectric installation is the transformation of the hydraulic energy of a river into electricity.

Thus, the purpose of a Hydroelectric Power Plant is to use the potencial energy of reservoir water retained by means of the construction of a dam and to trasform it into mechanic energy through the circulation of the water into a hydraulic turbine, which makes a rotation movement. Then, it is transformed into electricity by means of a generator that exposes it to a trasformer which adequates the voltage which, through high tension lines delivers it to the market. Finally, at the end of this process the water is returned to the river to continue its course.

The hydroelectric energy is a clean and renewable resource, always in a continuous process of formation by the source of Nature, it is also inexhausitible because it follows the Water Cicle. Moreover, it behaves more respectfully with the environment compared to other forms of energy.

The hydroelectric generation presents further advantages:
• Low exploitation and maintenance costs
• High rate of production efficiency and with a high lending factor in comparison with other resources. Today, a Hydroelectric Power Plant is the most efficient way so far known to produce electricity.
• The important engineering works necessary to exploit hydraulic energy are can be said to last for a considerable length of time.
• At present, it is the only generation technology which is renewable and plausible in large scale.

In short, the hydroelectric generation is fundamental to develop the countries abilities to promote a sustainable an environmentally friendly future of the electricity.
