The Hydroelectric Power Plant El Chocón (H.E.C.S.A) is a company dedicated to the generation of electricity through the explotation of the waterfalls formed by the construction works of El Chocón and Arroyito on the Limay River. It has an annual average generation capacity of 3.600 GWh which in broad terms represents the 5% of the generation of the Argentine Interconnection System (SADI) The constitution of the company originated with the division of Hidroeléctrica Norpatogónica S.A, a State owned company created with the purpose of building and exploiting the Hydroelectric Complex El Chocón- Cerros Colorados by the end of 1960. The company was granted in concession as from 11TH August 1993, for a 30 years’ effective term to consortium Hidroinvest S.A, a holding company with a 59% controlling interest. The Hydroelectric Complex, formed by El Chocón and Arroyito, has an overall installed capacity of 1.328 MW. El Chocón has an istalled capacity of 1.200 MW- conformed by six (6) generators of 200 MW each, Arroyito has an installed capacity of 128 MW- conformed by three (3) generators of 42.6 MW each.
